Today we feature five bonus tracks plus video online from 1979.

In the news in 1979:

• On March 5^th, the big network switch took place in the Twin Cities.  KSTP-TV Channel 5 went from NBC to ABC affiliation after 30 years with NBC.  NBC went to WTCN-TV, then an independent, and now KARE 11.  Channel 9 was the ABC affiliate becoming an independent, now with Fox.
• The Minnesota Zoo monorail debuted in September.
• in October 79, Pope John Paul II made his first papal pilgrimage to the United States.  He took the country by storm.  One of his stops was in Des Moines, Iowa on October 4^th.
• In country music, we were listening to top ten hits from Dave & Sugar, John Conlee, a duet from Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley, Bellamy Brothers and Crystal Gayle.

Dave & Sugar – “Golden Tears”

“Golden Tears” was written by John Schweers and recorded by Dave & Sugar.  The song became the group’s third and final number one hit on the Billboard Magazine Hot Country singles chart.  The song is about a woman who quickly realizes that money does not necessarily buy happiness. 

From a Chevy to a Lincoln.

John Conlee - “Backside of Thirty”

John Conlee wrote and recorded “Backside of Thirty.  Released in February of 1979 as the third single from the album "Rose Colored Glasses," the song is about a working man whose dreams of family life and the American dream came undone after an acrimonious divorce. 

Making money at thirty with a wife and a son. 

Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley – “Just Good Ole Boys”

Bandy and Stampley previously enjoyed success as solo artists.  “Just Good Ole Boys” -- a novelty song -- was the most successful of the Bandy and Stampley collaborations.  The song stayed at number one for a week and spent a total of eleven weeks on the country chart.

The Bellamy Brothers – “If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me”

David Bellamy wrote the song, the Bellamy Brothers recorded the song.  It was released as the second single from the album "The Two and Only."  The song became their first number one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart April of 1979. It remained at number one for three weeks.   The song was a minor hit on Top 40 stations.

Crystal Gayle – “Half the Way”

Crystal Gayle signed with Columbia Records in early 1979, that’s when she recorded “Half the Way.”  The song’s up-tempo sound and soft rock sounding melody peaked at number 15 on the pop chart.  It also climbed to Billboard Magazine’s number two position on the country chart, number nine on the adult contemporary hits chart.
