Moe Bandy – “Bandy The Rodeo Clown”

Moe Bandy once said about his music, “I really think my songs are about life. There’s cheating, drinking and divorcing going on everywhere and that’s what hard core country music is all about.”  “Bandy The Rodeo Clown” was a top ten hit, written by Lefty Frizzell and Whitey Shafter . 

Who was once a bull honking son of a gun.  Now who keeps a pint hid out behind chute number one.

Glenn Campbell – “Rhinestone Cowboy”

In June 2011, after a long and successful career, Glenn Campbell announced he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.  He had been suffering from short-term memory loss for years.  Campbell sang “Rhinestone Cowboy” as a goodbye at the 2012 Grammy Awards.  “Rhinestone Cowboy” was Campbell’s  largest-selling single with over 2 million copies sold.  The song was number one for three weeks.

Waylon Jennings – “Rainy Day Woman”

Waylon Jennings is the rebel perhaps best remembered for helping to popularize the grittier and more rock-influenced genre known as "Outlaw Country." Jennings had three top ten hits in 1975, including “Rainy Day Woman." The song topped out at number two.

Loretta Lynn – “The Pill”

In 1970, Loretta Lynn’s signature song “Coal Miner’s Daughter” became one of her biggest hits.  One of her most controversial hits, “The Pill” is a frank discussion about birth control.  The song received a lot of airplay, but a number of country stations refused to air it. 

You wined me and dined me when I was your girl promised if I’d be your wife you’d show me the world. 

But all I’ve seen of this old world is a bed and a doctor bill.  I’m tearin’ down your brooder house.  Cause now I’ve got the pill.

Ronnie Milsap – “Daydreams About Night Things”

Ronnie Milsap recorded an album entitled, "Night Things.” "Daydreams About Night Things" was the first single released from that album.  That single went to number one on the country charts and stayed there for two weeks.
