Each Wednesday at 8 a.m. I join Cindy and Doug for Country Classic Flashback.  We take a trip down memory lane to highlight a country legend.  This week we are featuring Lorrie Morgan.

Lorrie was born June 27, 1959 in Nashville, Tennessee.  She is the daughter of Grand Ole Opry star, George Morgan.  In 1986 she Lorrie married fellow country singer Keith Whitley.  She was in Alaska promoting her breakthrough single Dear Me when she received the news that Keith had drank himself to death.

Lorrie would go on to release three more Top 10 singles from her debut album which includes Leave the Light On and Five Minutes.  She lent her voice to an old Keith recording of the song Til A Tear Becomes a Rose.  The song became a duet and was recognized by the Country Music Association as the Musical Event of the Year in 1990.

Lorrie’s personal life has been a roller coaster ride.  It’s been filled with ups and downs but in a 2004 interview with Larry King she said:

“Drama is something that let’s you know you’re still alive.”

In all, she has been married  six times including a marriage to Sammy Kershaw, a fellow country singer.  Lorrie has two children, a daughter from her first marriage to Ron Gaddis and a son, Jesse Keith from her marriage to Keith Whitley.

Lorrie will be performing this Saturday night at Rollie’s Rednecks and Longnecks for the 4th Annual Sauk Rapids Firefighter’s Dance.  Katie and I will be out there Saturday for a special live edition of the Country Classic Show from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Country Classic  Flashback is brought to you by Midwest Machinery on East Highway 23 in Sauk Rapids with eight other locations in Central Minnesota.

For more of your favorite classic country hits, tune in to the Classic Country Show each Sunday from 9 a.m to 1 p.m.
