Every Wednesday at 8 a.m. I join Cindy and Doug for the Country Classic Flashback.  We take a trip down memory lane to highlight a country legend.  This week we are featuring Alabama.

Alabama is a country/music southern rock band from the state of Alabama.  They got together in 1969 with the help of Randy Owen and his cousin, Teddy Gentry.  They paved the way for the success of today's top country groups.

The band had a great cross over appeal that lead to their unprecedented popularity.  Alabama's  first single was Tennessee River and it began a streak of 21 consecutive number one singles between 1980 and 1987.  Among the more memorable singles in that run were Feels So Right, Love in the First Degree and The Closer You Get.

They also toured extensively and incorporated production elements such as lighting and sets inspired by rock concerts into their shows.  The band has over 30 number one country  records on the Billboard magazine charts and have sold over 73 million records to date.

In the 1980's Alabama released an album each year.  The late Dick Clark booked Alabama on American Bandstand during the show's country week on October 4th, 1980.

In 2012 Alabama performed at the 30th anniversary of WE Fest in August held in Detroit Lakes, MN.  The group also played at the first ever WE Fest in 1982.  On August 31st, 2013, Alabama will perform at Grand Casino Hinckley.
