We are saluting our July Veteran of the Month Staff Sgt. Robbie Sheets of Green Isle, Minnesota. Here's why we are recognizing this brave American hero.

Robbie was nominated by his brother, Shane.  In reading what Shane wrote to us about his brother, you can tell there is a huge amount of respect and pride for what Robbie does.

Here is what Shane sent us:

I am nominating my brother, Staff SGT. Sheets for Veteran of the Month because of his dedicated service to MN and our country since 2005. He is a member of the 849th Engineer Battalion, and has been deployed to both, (2007) Iraq and (2013) Afghanistan (both of which have not been easy at home or overseas.)He is set to come home from Afghanistan in early June, and this time, he haa sustained injuries from an attack at their Forward Operating Base.

His first deployment in Iraq was cut very short because his 5 month old son passed away unexpectedly, and he was sent home to be with his family. While obviously heartbroken, he continued to honorably serve with the MN National Guard.

Between deployments, he works full-time, volunteers as a boxing coach at the St. Cloud Downtown Boxing and Wrestling Club, has participated in the diplomatic soldier exchange to Croatia, and has Completed a Warrior Leadership Course at Fort McCoy, WI with 100% in subject presentation training through use of visual, tactical, and ideological training methods.

My brother has received The Military Order of the Purple Heart, as well as other honors for his service overseas. My brother should be nominated for this honor because he is not only a veteran, he is a hero in our family and country, he helps others in need and when things get tough, he keeps his head up and moves forward.

Robbie, from all of us here at 98 Country, we appreciate your service and dedication to serving our country and your continuing dedication to helping others.  We wish you a speedy recovery and we are inspired by your courage and tenacity.

If there is a special veteran in your life that you'd like us to recognize make sure to nominate them for Veteran of the Month.
