This month 98 Country is honoring Eric Reetz of Cold Spring for his service in the Army and for all the wonderful things he does for those around him.

Eric was nominated by his good friend Jamie, who had this to say about him:

I am nominating Sgt First Class Eric Reetz for Veteran of the Month because Eric's life has always revolved around giving himself to others. Eric has served two tours in Iraq and currently serves the Army in the Infantry. Eric recently accepted a position with St Paul Police and is a board member for Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA.)

It is a regular occurrence for him to wake up early on weekends and spend it representing the Army at different events, or to have the honor of presenting a flag at a funeral to the family of a fallen hero.

Eric also carries the same values into his personal life. Eric is known to "pay it forward." He is always looking for ways to make someones day or help someone out in whatever way he can. Eric is also someone of strength. Eric lost his beautiful wife, Janelle, in 2008 suddenly due to a heart complication. The love in his eyes when he speaks of her will leave you speechless. He has been the back for numerous people that have also found themselves in that same awful position, and given them hope and courage to go on.

Eric is an example of what it means to give yourself to something greater. He never stops pushing himself, and he has a way of building up those around him. He is the definition of loyalty. It seems as if Eric is always in the middle of planning some sort of surprise for someone in his life, and I want him to have a moment for himself to reflect on all that he has done and what he gives to those around him that he doesn't even realize.

Eric's dedication to his country and those closest to him is admirable. He is an example for all of us. Eric, thank you so much for serving our country and for each time you've gone the extra mile for someone else. Your kindness is greatly appreciated!

If there is a special veteran in your life that you'd like us to recognize make sure to nominate them for Veteran of the Month.
