98 Country’s Veteran of the Month — USMC Corporal Billy Peters

Our Veteran Of The Month for May is Sauk Rapids native Billy Peters. USMC Corporal Billy Peters is now stationed at Camp Pendleton, California.with the 1st Combat Engineers Battalion where he works in Motor Transport.

He was nominated for 98 Country's Veteran of the Month program by his father, Brian, who sent us this wonderful letter.

"My son is one of the best human beings I know. He is a great son! He is very loyal to mom and dad, he is always willing to help us in any way possible. I suffer a chronic illness and before he joined the USMC I was always in the hospital and during my stay he took very good care of mom, kept her safe, kept our pets in good care, took care of the house and yard and never once complained he had to take on so much.

 

He has been the best hunting and fishing partner I could ever ask for. He has given me countless hours of joy in the boat, at deer camp and other outdoor activities. He is a great brother to his sister as well as her husband. He is a great uncle to his niece Alexa both over the phone when away and in person when back on leave.

 

Billy married Montana Karl's this past Friday March 29, 2013. She tells us that he makes being in the relationship 'easy' and he is very loving and supportive to her. I hear from friends that he is a very loyal friend.

 

Since he became a Marine he has served well. He has deployed to Afghanistan and met every challenge posed to him. He has been recognized several time by his unit and his fellow Marines speak highly of him. Being a Marine is an important step he took, but quite honestly his best attribute is that he is the best son, husband, uncle, brother and friend anyone could ask for.

 

My life is way more blessed having him as my boy, more than him being a veteran, but this is the Veteran of the month contest so I digress. This world is a far better place with him being part of it, being a Marine has just been the part where he has made it safer and better for all of us!"
