A New Way To Remember Your Loved Ones [VIDEO]

WCCO-TV

There’s a new way to remember grandma and grandpa and one twin cities monument company is one of the first in the country to offer the new technology.

WCCO is reporting that Katzman Monument Company is now offering QR codes on their headstones. What the heck is a QR Code you may ask? It is like a bar code that you scan with a smart phone. Basically you take a  picture of it and it automatically directs you to a web address where you can find out more information about a product or service.

Instead of it directing you to a product, these QR codes will take you to a web  page that will contain all your memories of your loved one. All those videos you have of grandpa snoring after Thanksgiving or pictures of grandma losing her teeth or Uncle Al making his goofy face. You pay Katzman to create your loved one’s site, then upload anything you want to share with anyone that passes by the headstone.

So basically, you could walk into a cemetery and learn everything about some random stranger just by taking out your phone and hitting a button, photos, video, a biography, life achievements, even your own memories of this person is all a click away.

I am torn on how I feel about this. Would it be great to be able to look at some really old headstones and know that they fought in the civil war or that they were on the Mayflower? Would it be nice to be able to show people who you really were long after you are gone? Maybe.

I just don’t know that I want someone in 2212 scanning my headstone and knowing more about me than I even knew about myself. I’m thinking I will keep this technology off my headstone and just let the folks in 2212 guess what I was like.

What are your thoughts? Would you add a QR code to your headstone?
