Animal Rescue Story Of The Week: Tillie Mae [VIDEO]

Our animal rescue story this week comes from Danielle. She has an amazing story to tell about her furry child, Tillie Mae.

Right before Thanksgiving last year, I happened to be looking through pictures of dogs for adoption on SecondHand Hounds website. When I stumbled across a little boxer girl named Daisy. ( I later named her Tillie Mae). Tillie was listed as a dog with a skeleton deformation. Once I started the process of adopting her I found out she has hip dysplaysia.

Along with a very rough past. In eight  short months this little girl fought through neglect, abuse, malnutrition, worms and then hip dysplaysia. At that point she was surrendered back to a humane society in Oklahoma. She was placed on the destroy list, but a lady there had and saw hope in little "daisy" at the time and she fought for her survival and managed to get SecondHand Hounds here in Minnesota to rescue her and give her the chance she needs.

So she made her journey up here and with some tlc she pulled through it. And was placed up for adoption. Shortly after she was placed up, I stumbled across her and from the moment I met her at a meet and greet, I was in love. I pushed for a speedy adoption and in 5 short days the little girl came home with me on December 3, 2012.

It was has been a whirlwind of learning experiences for both of us. She quickly adapted to my barn schedule and fell in love with the barn life. In the last months she has blossomed out of her very scared timid side to this adventure driven puppy that she should be. She is and probably always will be leery with new people and loud noises scare her half to death, but she has made so much progress from the dog that shakes uncontrollably and peed on me the day I brought her home. There is never a dull moment with a puppy in your house, that is for sure.

I don't know who rescued who any more but I could not have found a better pup. Tillie is a 15 months old, purebred boxer. And as far as a hip issue, this kangaroo hasn't stopped once! She runs and bounces around, walk has never been an option for her. Always go go go.  Her story before I got her was actually made into a very heartfelt, tearjerker video that was sent to me a few weeks back from the man who fostered her while in the SecondHands Hounds system.

If I could do it all over again I would have found her sooner. Otherwise, there is nothing I would change about bringing home Tillie Mae! I will never "buy" an animal, I will always adopt/rescue one. There are so many animals out there that need homes and have such sad stories and should not go unforgotten.
