You would think that the water you get from your kitchen and bathroom would be the same water that comes out of your outdoor spigot, right? You'd be correct with that assumption. Then why can't you drink it? According to a recent study, it's because of the garden hose and not the source of the water.

Believe it or not, most garden hoses contain lead and other things bad for us...especially young children. Along with lead and phthalates, some hoses were found to have traces of PVC plastic additives which can lead to birth defects and cancer.

There are some hose manufacturers that make lead-free hoses. The best way to know is to look for the warning label. If there isn't one, assume the hose is not meant for drinking and head indoors to the faucet!
