Biggest Letdowns of Becoming An Adult

When I was younger I used to be so excited for growing up.  I was the one who told people time and again that I was moving out at 18 and never coming back.  I hear kids say the same things all the time and I think they’re missing the memo just like I did.  Adulthood is NOT all it’s cracked up to be.

What kids don’t realize is that by becoming an adult you get two things.  The first is the opportunity to do whatever you want and the second is the responsibility for every single one of your actions.

With that being said, I read a list of the eight biggest letdowns of becoming an adult.  Some I agree with, others not as much.  Here are what I consider to be some of the biggest downers of becoming an adult:

  • Mom will not take you to the store and buy you new clothes.  It’s not because she doesn’t love you, it’s because you’re a big kid now.  I will give you a tip though, I would put on the sad face with puppy dog eyes and my mom would help me out once in awhile.
  • You realize you really don’t know it all and your parents were right most of the time.  This is a really hard pill to swallow.  To this day, I am discovering that I’m turning in to my mother, not that it’s a bad thing.  However, I’m also discovering on a fairly regular basis that my mom is right about, well, almost everything.  Listen to your parents and the transition to adulthood might be a little easier and less shocking.
  • Along with your parents being right, you also realize how little you had to take care of yourself.  Dishes, laundry, oil changes, the whole nine yards.  Guess what?  That isn’t your mom’s problem or your dad’s. See, look what you inherit by turning 18?

Now that I have sent every teenager in to total sadness about becoming an adult, I’m going to say it’s not that bad. Just remember while you have all kinds of freedom and you can do whatever you want, there will be consequences and they are yours to deal with.  Oh yeah, and enjoy your childhood for as long as you can!
