Carrie Underwood Talks ‘The Sound of Music’ Hate Tweets: ‘I Know My Place’

Carrie Underwood may have received Julie Andrews’ blessing for her role as Marie von Trapp in the upcoming live NBC adaptation of ‘The Sound of Music,’ but that doesn’t mean everyone is as supportive.

“I get hate tweets and stuff like, ‘You’re not Julie Andrews!’” the 30-year-old country star admits. “I know I’m not Julie. Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was … I know my place.”

Since Underwood’s version of ‘The Sound of Music’ is live, it will have a completely different feel — and there’s no way the country superstar is trying to replace the iconic Andrews, who made the movie adaptation famous. Still, avid fans of the story are leery.

The ‘Blown Away’ singer will just have to keep Andrews’ words in the back of her mind the next time her Twitter notifications are full of hurtful comments.

“Fifty years later, it’s time somebody had another crack at it,” Andrews tells Zap2it. “I had the best time of my life doing it, and it did wonderful things for me. I think it’s great that it’s being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting for Carrie … it’s a lovely piece, and I do hope it works for Carrie, because she’s lovely and I’m a fan. I wish her well.”

Underwood will be joined by Stephen Moyer, star of ‘True Blood,’ who will play Captain von Trapp. ‘The Sound of Music Live!’ special will air on Dec. 5 at 8PM ET on NBC.
