Country newcomer Michael Ray recently stopped by the Taste of Country Nights studio to tell his story, talk about writing with John Rich and debut some new music. The Florida native and winner of the CW's 'The Next' says he grew up on Bobby Bare and Porter Wagoner, but at age 16 heard Gary Allan -- "and that was it for me."
Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum is almost as passionate about golf as he is country music. The singer says if he had to pick between a hole in one or a No. 1 single ('Compass' is currently in the Top 5), he'd take the radio hit. But in a strange way, the two passions merged last summer.
Dierks Bentley's new 'Riser' album hits stores and digital retailers on Tuesday (Feb. 25). The singer calls it his most personal album to date, and says the current single 'I Hold On' is his favorite radio single ever. During an interview with Taste of Country Nights' Sam Alex, Bentley opens up about the music, his family, his trips to the White House and his wife Cassidy's Toyota Prius.
Gary Allan's powerful new song 'It Ain't the Whiskey' has stormed through its first two rounds of Showdown competition, but today's challenger might be a more imposing obstacle. Earlier this week, Allan's track took 86 percent of the vote in a win over Chris Stapleton's 'It Ain't the Whiskey.' That sets up a matchup with George Strait.
You just never know what we're going to see outside our window here at Taste of Country Nights. Last Friday there was an early Cinco De Mayo celebration going on, and I just couldn't help myself -- I got out the bullhorn!
Like a lot of you, I sat home today crying at the TV as we said goodbye to George Jones. What a beautiful tribute it was seeing Alan Jackson's tearful version of 'He Stopped Loving Her Today.' I wish country music was still in those good old days.
What a beautiful little Texas town, but such an enormous tragedy that happened. This weekend on my way back to Dallas from San Antonio, I stopped by the town of West, Texas to pay my respects -- and, I guess, to satisfy that curiosity bug I had about what everything looks like.
I am a child of the '80s, so like many others, I grew up with the Duke boys, Bo and Luke. But I'm not sure other people who watched 'The Dukes of Hazzard' are as obsessed with the star of the show as I am.
