Each Wednesday we take a trip down memory lane to highlight a classic country artist. This week we’re flashing back to the late 1980′s with Travis Tritt.

Travis is from Georgia and he took an interest in music after his Sunday school performed Everything Is Beautiful.  When he got his first guitar, he taught himself to play it.  He also taught himself Annie’s Song and King of the Road, which he performed for his fourth grade class.  The performance was so good, he was invited to play for other classrooms in the school.

He started writing music in high school and worked several different odd jobs.  He got some help from a friend who worked at Warner Bros. Records and began recording demos.  He signed on with them in 1987.

Over the course of his career he’s released 12 albums, with seven achieving platinum status.  He’s also got five #1′s, two Grammy’s and four CMA awards under his belt.

Travis released a song in 1991 called Here’s A Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares and it went all the way to #2 on the charts.  Shortly before signing with Warner Bros. he got married and things went south.  On the night he was served with divorce papers, Here’s A Quarter was born.  If you have the opportunity to meet Travis, ask him if he’s ever had quarters thrown at him.

Check out this interview on the Wendy Williams show from earlier this year.  He talks about his latest album, the duet he did with his daughter and touches on Jason Aldean’s divorce.

The Country Classic Flashback is brought to you by Midwest Machinery on East Highway 23 in Sauk Rapids with eight other locations in Central Minnesota.
