Each Wednesday at 8 a.m.  I join Cindy and Doug for Country Classic Flashback.  We take a trip down memory lane to highlight a country legend.  This week we are featuring Garth Brooks.

Troyal Garth Brooks was born in Luba, Oklahoma on February 7, 1962.  He became the biggest country music star of the 1990's and has enjoyed one of the most successful careers in country music history, breaking records for both album sales and concert attendance throughout the 1990's.

After the release of the The Dance in the spring of 1990 along with a music video debut, his sales doubled within a month.  The release of his second album, No Fences,  indicated the record breaking success to come when fueled by the popularity of the hit,  Friends in Low Places, which sold more than 700,000 copies within its first 10 days.  It became his signature song. Garth has claimed that out of all the songs he has recorded, The Dance is his favorite.

On October 26, 2000, Brooks officially announced his retirement and on October 15, 2009 Brooks announced he was coming out of retirement.

He married his college sweetheart, Sandy Mahl in May of 1986.  Their divorce became final in December of 2001.  The tabloids reported for years he was having an affair with longtime friend and collaborator, Trisha Yearwood.  They married on December 10, 2005.  It was the second marriage for him and third for her.

They own four homes, but they primarily reside on their ranch in Owasso, Oklahoma.  On July 6th this year Garth joined forces with Toby Keith for a benefit concert for victims of the 2013 Oklahoma tornadoes.

He just became a grandfather.  His middle daughter 19 year old August Anna Brooks gave birth to a baby girl named Karalynn a few weeks ago.
