Country Classic Flashback to Feature Johnny Horton

www.uulyrics.com

Each Wednesday at 8 a.m. I join Cindy and Doug for the Country Classic Flashback.  We take a trip down memory lane to highlight a country legend.  This week we are featuring Johnny Horton.

Johnny was born in Los Angeles on April 30, 1925.   He tried several lines of work before he won a talent contest in 1950.  It was at that time he decided to try singing for a living.

For a short period Johnny found success with Rock-A-Billy music but in 1958 he hit the top of the country charts with “When It’s Springtime in Alaska.”  Some of his other hits include “Johnny Reb,” “Sink the Bismark” and “North to Alaska.”

On September 26, 1953 Johnny married the widow of Hank Williams, Sr., Billie Jean Jones.  Strangely enough, he had very strong premonitions that he would die at a young age and he did his best to avoid it.  One night while driving back to Austin, TX from Shreveport, LA Johnny was killed in a head on collision.

Tune in every Wednesday at 8 a.m. for the Country Classic Flashback.  It’s brought to you by Midwest Machinery in Sauk Rapids with eight other locations in Central Minnesota.  For more of your favorite classic country hits tune in to the 98 Country Classic Show on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
