Each Wednesday at 8 a.m. I join Pete and Cindy for Country Classic Flashback.  We take a trip down memory lane to highlight a country legend.  This Wednesday we are featuring Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers.

The Gatlin Brothers is comprised of the tight knit vocal efforts of lead singer Larry Gatlin and his harmonizing brothers Steve, Daryl and Rudy.  With Larry’s vocals and the solid background singing of his brothers they have enjoyed number one hits, a Grammy Award and three ACM Awards.

Larry won a football scholarship to the University of Houston, where he majored in English and studied law.  In 1973, Larry and Rita Coolidge did background vocals for Kris Kristofferson’s hit, Why Me?

They had several top ten hits including I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love, Houston Means I’m One Day Closer to You, Broken Lady and their signature song, All the Gold in California.

Drug addiction led Larry to a treatment center where he made a full recovery.  After more than a decade of singing with his brothers the Gatlin’s embarked on their farewell tour before retiring to their own theater in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Since 2010 Larry Gatlin contributed to the Fox News and Fox Business networks as a political commentator.  He also filled in for Don Imus on his show and Spencer Hughes on Fox Across America in 2011.
