Country Classic Flashback to Feature The Kendalls

Each Wednesday at 8 a.m. I join Pete and Cindy for Country Classic Flashback.  We take a trip down memory lane to highlight a country legend.  This week we are featuring The Kendalls.

Just when it appeared close harmony and duet singing was nearing an end in country music, the father/daughter due of Royce and Jeannie Kendall put it back on the charts.  They placed thirty-seven singles on the country charts from 1970 through 1989.  The theme of most of their music dealt with adultery.

Country fans loved their hard country.  Jeannie's high pitched vocals drove uptempo songs like, Heaven's Just a Sin Away and Sweet Desire to the number one position in the late 1970's.  Royce's baritone voice grounded Jennie's electric performances.

When all is said and done the duo managed to get to Billboard's Top Ten eleven times.  Consistently on the charts throughout the early 1980's, their release of Thank God for the Radio was on the country chart for 23 weeks and went all the way to number one.

Between 1969 and 1998, they released sixteen albums.  Royce Kendall died from a stroke May 22, 1998.  They also performed in Branson, Missouri where they had built homes next door to each other.  Jeannie continues to tour and perform.
