Country Classic Flashback Features Waylon Jennings

Each Wednesday at 8 a.m. I join Cindy and Doug for Country Classic Flashback.  We take a trip down memory lane to highlight a country legend.  This week we are featuring Waylon Jennings.

Waylon went from living in poverty in west Texas to become part of Buddy Holly’s band.  He later became a Nashville rebel, outlaw and cocaine addict.  He found the path to redeem himself and would become one of country music’s hugest stars.  This journey has been a theme of Jennings’ music and life since he left Littlefield, Texas.

A baptist preacher visited Waylon’s parents and congratulated his mom for for naming him after the Wayland Baptist University.   His mom, Lorene, had never heard of the university.  In an autobiography Waylon expressed his dislike for the name.  He said it sounded corny and hillbilly but was finally at peace with it.

Tune in at 8 a.m. Wednesday February 27th on 98.1 FM 98 Country for the Classic Country Flashback!
