Garth Brooks graduated from Oklahoma Sate University in Stillwater. Garth is the youngest of six children, born February 7, 1962. His mother, the former Colleen Carroll, recorded in the 1950's and performed with Red Foley on the Ozark Jubilee television show. Garth's dad, Troyal, played guitar, and taught Garth his first chords. Garth gave his first performance at a 4th grade talent show.

Garth's first single "Much Too Young" debuted on the Country chart March 24, 1989.  Sixteen weeks later the record peaked at number eight. Brooks followed with another self penned tune, "If Tomorrow Never Comes."
