Mickey Gilley was born in Natchez, Mississippi in 1936. He grew up in nearby Ferriday, Louisiana. A freak accident two years ago left Mickey paralyzed from the neck down. It happened when he was helping a friend move some furniture, he fell about 18 to 20 feet and landed on the back of his neck. He has been in rehabilitation for several months. He is now able to walk and is coming a long nicely. He still can't play the piano. Gilley is still touring and performing at his theater in Branson, Missouri. Among his biggest hits are "Room full of Roses," "Don't the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time" and "Stand By Me."
