The country group Sawyer Brown established itself nationally with the 1985 hit "Step That Step" they earned a reputation for playing bubblegum country.

In 1991 they reemerged as an act with more depth and focus. The group moved to Nashville in 1981.  Initially known as Savannah, they took the name Sawyer Brown from a road in suburban Nashville.

In 1984 Sawyer Brown won a $100,000 first prize in the star search television show which led to a contract with a record company.  In 1991 they took on a blue collar theme, a more common man approach to their music.

They had a string of hits, the remake of George Jones' hit "Race is on," "The Dirt Road," "Cafe on the Corner" and many more. The group has been active since 1981 founded in Apopka, Florida. The group performed at Winstock this year and Friday June 28th they were in St. Cloud as part of Granite City Days at Whitney Park at the Liberty Block Party.

Join me Sunday morning July 7th for the music of Sawyer Brown on the Country Classic Spotlight at 11 a.m. A segment of the 98 Country Classic Show 98.1 FM 98 Country.
