The 98 Country Classic Spotlight shines brightly on Sonny James, the "Southern Gentleman" this Sunday morning.

James is one of the most profoundly influenced figures in all of country music.

After returning from Korea, Sonny and roommate Chet Atkins, spent time playing instruments and sharing songs.  Chet introduced Sonny to Capitol Records.  By the end of the decade he was a nationally recognized recording star on the brink of his journey to becoming one of the most popular country artist of all time.

Sonny toured with the country greats: Marty RobbinsJohnny Cash, and many more.

In 1961 he became the first country artist to be honored with a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.

His first number one hit was, "Young Love" in 1956.  The song stayed at number one for nine weeks.

Sonny had 22 number one hit songs.

He also appeared in the movies: "Second Fiddle to a Steel Guitar," Nashville Rebel," and "Las Vegas Hillbillies."
