"When it comes to journalism, what stays and what goes?"

"Heart & Soul: Community Journalism in Minnesota" raises crucial issues as the theme of the 42nd Annual SCSU First Amendment Forum. The FREE all day workshop will be held on April 19th in the Atwood Little Theatre at St. Cloud State University. The forum will focus on best practices. Journalists, educators, and students will be able to exchange ideas and go inside the minds of news hounds! There will be two sessions. The first one will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and the second session will be from 1:15 pm to 3:00 pm.

 


The First Session

9:00 am-11:00 am

This session will go over lost traditions and preserved customs in community journalism. Featured panelists will include: Reed Anfinson (editor and manager of the Swift County Monitor), Julie Bergman (co-owner of Page 1 Publications), Tom West (editor and general manager of the Morrison County Record), Tim Hennagir (editor of the Monticello Times), and Rene Kaluza (training director and columnist for the St. Cloud Times).

 

The Second Session

1:15 pm-3:00 pm

This session will reach out to the audience about the challenges facing today's journalists as well as predictions about future business. Featured panelists will include: TaLeiza Calloway (freelance journalist), Jay Corn (patch correspondent), Jun-Kai Teoh (digital content director for St. Cloud Times), Lesley Toth (reporter and columnist for Mille Lacs County Times), and Reg Chapman (WCCO investigative reporter).
