The Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s hockey team earned a chance to play for the national title Saturday with a dramatic 2-1 win over North Dakota Thursday night in Philadelphia.  The Gophers scored the game-winning-goal with 0.6 seconds remaining in the third period.

The teams were locked in a scoreless tie until Sam Warning gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead with a goal at 10:51 of the third period.

The lead would prove to be short-lived, however, as North Dakota answered with a Connor Gaarder goal just :32 later to tie the game at one.

It appeared the game was headed to overtime as the shorthanded Gophers lugged the puck through the neutral zone with less than ten seconds remaining, but Justin Holl slammed home a rebound with less than a second left on the clock to earn the Gophers the win.

Earlier in the day, Union upset Boston College 5-4 after blowing a 4-2 lead in the third period. The championship game between the Gophers and Dutchmen is scheduled to take place Saturday night.
