ST. CLOUD -- The heavy rainfall last month has limit the time farmers can get in the fields to plant crops.

With the planting window closing, John Deere has developed a new high-speed planter to help speed up the process.

Steve Lenzmeier is the IS Consultant at Midwest Machinery. He says the planter was designed to better prepare for the unpredictable Minnesota weather.

Lenzmeier says the ExactEmerge planter will help farmers be more efficient in wet field conditions.

The planter is also twice as fast as the current machine, operating at 10 mph compared to 4 mph.

At the moment the machine is set up to plant only corn and soybeans.

Lenzmeier says the new planter will not only shorten a farmers planting time but provide a bigger success rate come harvest.
