Hurricane Sandy 2012: Country Artists Offer Prayers, Warnings and Jokes as Storm Approaches
With the eye of 2012′s Hurricane Sandy expected to make landfall in the next 24 hours, residents along the east coast are taking measures to stay safe during, and after, what is being described as the “perfect storm.” Country music’s reach extends into all 50 states, so it’s no surprise that many of the top names took to Twitter to encourage those in Hurricane Sandy’s path to be extra cautious. A few even added some much-needed humor to the conversation surrounding Frankenstorm.
Effects of the hurricane can be felt from North Carolina to Maine, but Sandy is expected to make solid landfall along the coast of New Jersey sometime Monday night. Hundreds of thousands of people living in flood-prone sections of New York City have evacuated. Public transportation across New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia has been suspended as officials prepare for massive power outages.
