This Sunday, the 98 Country Classic Country Spotlight will shine brightly on Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Carpenter was born in Princeton, New Jersey in February 1958.  She graduated from Brown University in 1981 with a degree in American Civilization -- that is a long way from music, isn't it?

Carpenter's parents divorced when she was 16 and it affected her deeply. She later wrote about it in the song, "House of Cards."

While growing up, she was influenced by artists such as The Mama's and the Papas, Woody Guthrie, Judy Collins and The Beatles. Carpenter's first album was "Hometown Girl" and one of her biggest hits was "Passionate Kisses."

Carpenter has won five Grammy Awards and is the only artist to have won four consecutive Grammy Awards for best Female Country Vocal Performance.

Join me on Sunday, Sept. 25th as I showcase the music of Mary Chapin Carpenter. That's at 11:00 a.m. on the Classic Country Spotlight.
