I've always wanted to check out Mickey's Diner in St. Paul. So when we turned the corner on Saturday, and there it was, it was time for lunch. In case you've never been there, what you see in the photo, is what you get. Mickey's is small and cramped, seating is limited, the atmosphere is fun, the food is greasy and pretty great.

Chris greeted us with a smile and a hello. We sat at the counter, just a couple of feet from where Joe was cooking up burgers, home fries, pancakes and eggs. They serve breakfast all day, and plenty of people were taking advantage of that. In fact, we had a hard time deciding between lunch and breakfast. We opted for lunch (including delicious malts) and figured we would come back for breakfast next time. Joe knows his grill. He won't disappoint you.

Mary took our order. She is a no nonsense-gimme your order-I don't have time for small talk-kind of a gal. I loved it. Made me feel like I was right back in New Jersey.  In fact, when another couple sat down next to us and asked if they had to walk back up to the front to order, I said, "no, she'll holler at you from there." And it made us laugh. Keep the attitude coming, Mary. It really does add to the whole diner atmosphere!

The history of Mickey's is written on the menu, and it's pretty cool! You can read about it here, but I suggest you make a stop next time you're in St. Paul. Reading the history is much more fun while enjoying some fries and a chocolate shake! You can bet we will be back.
