MN State Government Shutdown Could Become Even Bigger Problem

There are thousands of government workers laid off, hundreds of state-run services closed and it's all because the two sides can't come to an agreement on a budget. To those that have been directly affected, life is tough right now. But if you are like me, you haven't felt the state government shutdown at all. Personally, I was thinking it wouldn't affect me. My license is up to date, my car tabs are current, the home I'm building is in an area that has city inspectors - how could this affect me? Then I read this.

Jim Maurice reports that the Miller-Coors company didn't renew their brand license with the state of Minnesota before the government shutdown and now state officials have instructed the company to stop selling their products. That means if Miller or Coors brands are your favorite, you better stock up now or you won't be able to purchase them until the government starts back up.

It doesn't stop there though. Hundreds of local bars and restaurants don't have a current state-issued liquor purchasing card. That means they can't actually buy any alcohol and the distributors can't sell to them.

What does this mean for us? If the government stays shut down, your favorite restaurant or watering hole may wind up closing its doors as well. My advice, stock up now and then call your representatives and tell them to get off their butts and get a budget worked out.
