The Better Business Bureau is warning people of a new scam that involves receiving a call from what appears to be your own telephone number.

Kare11 is reporting that the latest scam involves calling victims with their own phone number in hopes to get them to answer the phone out of curiosity.  I don't know how it started, but my phone number is under my name in my contacts -- I think my provider did it at some point-- but I would be pretty freaked out to see me calling myself.  Weird!

So here's the deal -- those who answer the phone may get an automated message from a "credit card" company claiming to be to lower your interest rate.  However, you must provide the card number to proceed.

The BBB is advising consumers to ignore the calls and delete any messages left.   My personal tip is if it sounds strange, fishy, or weird just trust your gut.  Make your own calls and figure out if it's legit.  No one will fault you for that.
