Opie’s Angels – Struggling Single Mom [AUDIO]

Each year we team up with Opie's One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning to give people in Central Minnesota a hand up during the holidays. Opie's Angels have been hard at work and are ready to begin helping those in need.

Our first story this year is from Diane. She nominated her co-worker Sarah to receive a little helping hand this year.

Dear Opie's Angels,

I would like to nominate my friend and co-worker Sarah to receive a little help this year. Sarah lost her husband to a tragic construction accident in September. She in now a single young mother of two boys ages 3 and 5. She is not only struggling to recover from the sudden loss of her husband and her boy's father, but getting through the months financially is a struggle as well. I work with Sarah and would love to bless her with anything helpful.

Dear Diane,

Thank you for taking the time to nominate Sarah. She is truly blessed to have someone as special as you in her life during this difficult time. We can not even imagine how hard it is to lose your companion so suddenly, but to think about those boys having to spend their first Christmas without their dad chokes us up and we don't want to see that happen. Construction is close to Opie's heart and he is a father himself. He couldn't imagine that happening to his own children and we are happy to give a helping hand to Sarah and the boys this year.

Sarah, we want to start by offering our condolences on the loss of your husband. You are a strong lady and will need to continue to be strong for your boys - they need you now more than ever. We know what it is like to struggle to make ends meet and we want to help you this holiday season.

Sarah, we want you to first go get something for yourself. You have certainly been through a lot over the last few months and we believe you deserve to treat yourself to something nice. We are going to give you a $100 gift card to do whatever you would like - get a massage, get your hair and nails done, buy a new outfit or two, anything you would like to do with that money. For the boys, we are giving you a $150 gift certificate so you can make sure they have presents under the tree, warm coats and new shoes. We also know that a meal is a great place to share stories and memories and just become a closer family, that's why we are also giving you a $150 grocery gift card.

Sarah, you have wonderful friends and family around you and they are all willing to help you, they just sometimes don't know how to tell you they will. We applaud you for trying to make it all on your own, but please don't ever be too proud to ask for help. That's what friends and family are here for - to help us in our times of need.
