The holidays are a time for families to gather and remember just how much they mean to each other. Sadly, some families are broken up by tragedies beyond anyone's control.

Today the angels help a widowed father give his kids a great Christmas.  Elizabeth took time out of her day to nominate Josh for a helping hand from Opie and the angels this year.

Dear Opie's Angels,

I would like to nominate my friend Josh and his children for your assistance. Josh's wife battled cervical cancer for two years and sadly lost her battle in September of this year. Josh has two young children, Kaden (7) and Kaysie (4) and this will be a very difficult year for them since it is their first Christmas without their mom.

Josh works full time and is now a full time single parent. He has been through a lot this year and could use all the help he can get. Daycare expenses are high, he doesn't get a home cooked meal as often as he should and the kids have needs as well. He does the best he can, but I feel that he deserves a little brighter Christmas this year.

Thank you and Merry Christmas,
Elizabeth

Dear Elizabeth,

Josh is very lucky to have a friend like you that would put aside your own needs to make sure his are met. Watching your wife suffer with cancer is a terrible way to see her life end. It is especially difficult to explain why that happened to your two small children that she left behind. We certainly want to do everything we can to help those kids have a smile on their face this Christmas.

Josh, you are a strong man and it is obvious you love your kids. You are doing your best to support yourself and them and we want you to know how proud we are that you stepped up to the plate and continued to provide for them despite your loss. Josh, we would like to give you a $150 gift card so you can get your kids some clothes and toys for under your tree. We would also like to get you some groceries so you can enjoy a few good meals with the kids.

Speaking of the kids, we think they deserve some fun. We're going to get you a $50 gift card for Chuck E. Cheese so they can go and enjoy a little pizza and some games and just have fun with dad for a day.

Josh, thank you for being such a great dad and continuing to provide for your kids. It sounds like you have some great people around you and we hope you will lean on them when you need to.

Merry Christmas Elizabeth and Josh and thank you for letting us give you a hand up this year!
