A persistent case of pink eye has forced Bob Costas to step away from NBC's Olympic headquarters desk tonight. Today Show host Matt Lauer will fill in. Costas has been wearing glasses and visibly suffering from watery, swollen eyes during recent broadcasts. It will be the first time since 1998 that NBC's Olympic coverage will be Costas-less.

According to Costas, he's being treated for a viral eye infection, and just couldn't do the job because of blurry, watery, and light-sensitive eyes. He says he's receiving excellent care, and hopes to be back on the air soon.
