Review – Justin Moore ‘Off The Beaten Path’ [VIDEO]

For weeks I saw Justin Moore tweeting about how excited he was for his new album, Off The Beaten Path, to come out.  After picking up a copy myself, I can see why he was so pumped up to get this to his fans.

The project that he has put together is an incredible mixture of drinking, loving, laughing and standing up for what's right.  It's got rock, twang and everything in between.  If this album does nothing else, it will keep you on your toes.

The first track is called Old Back In The New School.  Like the title suggests, the song is about putting some of the old traditions back in to the things we're doing today, such as getting the working man back on the bar stool.  It's got a real rock feel to it and you'll be rockin' out to it in no time.

Next comes Lettin' The Night Roll.  This is a cute date night song -- if there's a good time in this town, we're gonna find it.  As far as what happens after that, they're just going to let the night roll.  This is one of my favorite tunes on the album, it's got an awesome country/rock feel to it.

Old Habits is the most traditional country song on the album.  I admit, I had my doubts on this song with Miranda Lambert.  However, the two of them deliver an incredible performance.  Lyrically, this is an old country song about holding on to a love that's long gone.  This is my second favorite track on the album because it's one everyone can easily relate to.

Point At You is Justin's latest single and it's doing incredibly well.  I love the song and I will be honest, I jam out to it when I hear it.  It's just a fun tune with a great beat to it.

When I saw I'd Want It To Be Yours on the track listing, I assumed the song would be something serious.  Well, we all know what assuming does and that's what this song is all about.  It's all about his girl's rear end and he likens it to those belonging to Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.  When you listen you'll be surprised what he'd want to be yours.  It's cute and very cheeky (no pun intended.)

This Kind Of Town talks about life in a small town.  No one ever really leaves and everyone works hard but plays harder.  The deeper meaning of the song is to be thankful for all that you have -- your home, friends and life in general.

Country Radio is a fun little tune about hanging out by the water and listening to good country music.  This song is perfect for a summer day by the lake, it has fun lyrics and a great beat.

That's How I Know You Love Me is a nice change of pace for Justin and this album.  While so much of it consists of good ole country boy songs, this is a love song to the woman who tried to save him, rather than change him.  The lyrics take you to a darker but more comforting place and overall, it's a beautiful song.

The title track definitely has a more rock feel to it.  The couple in the song is going to have a fun night filled with tequila off the beaten path.  There's great music and lots of dancing.  When I hear this, I picture a campfire with this song cranked up.

One Dirt Road is a song about after life.  He knows what God's plan is for him and the only thing he hopes for is one dirt road -- that has memories of his life.  He'd like to see his mother's clothesline, the church where he got married and his grandma's house a long the way.  This song evokes a lot of emotion and we certainly wish we could take these pieces of our life with us when we pass on.  I love this song!

The last song, For Some Ol' Redneck Reason, is my absolute favorite on the album. Charlie Daniels joins him on the tune and they're both trying to hold on to some of the values from days gone by.  He makes sure to mind his manners when his mother is around and Charlie is upset by young kids not removing their hats at a football game when the national anthem is played.  They both get the feeling they care too much -- they're old fashioned leanin, out of style and out of season.  It's very much a country song with some fun twists and meaningful lyrics.

I really, really, really love this album.  I think it's full of a great mixture of music and he brought some excellent talent add flavor to some of the songs.  I love that Justin has stayed true to country music's roots, but I hope that does not become his downfall.  Country music is constantly evolving and I think there are a few artists that have found a niche of singing about trucks and back roads.  That's fine, but you need to be versatile.  Versatile or not, this is an awesome album and one I would highly recommend getting your hands on.
