OUR STORY

My fiance Susan and I have been long-distance dating for over a year and a half, and I have known for a long time that she is the love of my life. It has been hard being apart for months at a time, and I wanted to prove my commitment to her for life and finally be together always.

Now I just wanted to put a ring on it!

THE PLAN

One of the first wishes Sue ever told me was that she wanted her life to be like a musical, and that she dreamed of her proposal most of all. I want to do anything I can to make her wishes and dreams come true. So I thought of a plan...

Sue's favourite musical is 'RENT' which I hadn't seen, so I watched it and really enjoyed it. I picked my favourite song from the show, 'Seasons of Love' and then re-wrote the lyrics to be more personal to us. I named the song 'Forever Love' and the full lyrics are below.

For the location, I chose the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles as Sue and I had shared some beautiful sunsets there together, and it had a lot of personal memories for us.

THE SURPRISE

I really wanted to surprise Sue for the proposal, and for her to not see it coming. But I wanted to ask her family for permission first, and to have all her friends and loved ones there to help me make it happen.

That was the hardest part of putting this all together, trying to keep this big event secret from the woman I love and tell everything to. We speak on Skype every day, use Facebook all the time, and just always want to know about each other's lives.

So, to fly over to LA from London and pretend I'm still there was quite a challenge!

THANK YOU

All of Sue's family were amazing and so supportive of my plan. I asked her father and mother for her hand in marriage, and they did amazingly well to help me keep this secret for over two months while I organised everything.

Sue's friends were truly amazing with helping make this possible. So many of them came out in force to flash mob Sue and turn this already special occasion into an unforgettable one.

Special thanks must go to Tom and Sandra Burkhardt, Desiree Walstrom, Nikki Campbell and Elizabeth Stanton. You guys were awesome and helped me out so much.

And what truly raised this event to be as great as it became, was having the amazing talents of the Overhaul A Cappella group led by the wonderful Sean P. Gorecki (you guys are truly brilliant and I love you!) and the awesome filming skills of Matt Renoir and John Bennett - Thank you for capturing the magic that unfolded :)

I think you'll all agree, Sue looked absolutely stunning. I'm a very lucky man!
