Sam Hunt just released his four-song EP, ‘X2C,' but the singer is already preparing for his debut full-length album to hit stores.

'Montevallo' is named for the small town in Alabama where Hunt lived while attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham nearby.

The Georgia native moved to Nashville in 2008 to pursue songwriting and went on to pen tunes for some of country music's heavy hitters, including Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney.

“I didn’t know you could write songs for a living,” he tells BuzzFeed. “Then I realized there were lots of publishers in Nashville, and these publishers were partnered with songwriters, and a lot of the songs that I’d heard on country radio over the years were written by all these guys. That community of people who are churning out lots of country songs that you’re hearing on the radio is not large, numbers-wise."

When Hunt decided that he wanted to start playing his music himself, he knew that it would be difficult to tour without releasing music, so he released 'Between the Pines' for free in 2013.

“Making the music accessible, especially in hip-hop, they do a great job,” he says. “When somebody’s never heard you, that’s the way to do it: Just give them music for free, and let them decide for themselves if they like it or not.”

Hunt co-wrote on every song on 'Montevallo,' which is set for release on Oct. 27 via MCA Nashville. A list of upcoming tour stops is available at SamHunt.com.
