Scotty McCreery Not One for Twerking, Rock n’ Roll Temptations

Scotty McCreery has never been one to hide his religious beliefs, often speaking out about his faith and recording faith-based songs. The 20-year-old has used that faith to help him steer clear from temptations while being a country music star.

He says he feels the country music industry is one that allows him to be true to his morals. He doesn’t judge anyone for their own moral choices, but he stays true to what he believes is right.

“I don’t want to put anyone down, but you won’t see any twerking from me,” McCreery jokes (quote via Fox411).

“I’m not ashamed [of my faith] but I know that everyone doesn’t agree with me,” he explains. “I think especially in the country music world, if there’s anyone that’s going to accept it, it’ll be them.”

McCreery knew that after winning ‘American Idol’ he would want to keep religious tones in his music. ”I wanted to have more songs with religious backgrounds,” he says. “The Christmas record has strong, traditional hymns but it also has a song called ‘Christmas in Heaven’ about missing someone that you love that’s passed on and wondering what’s going on up there on Christmas.”

The singer’s newest album, ‘See You Tonight,’ was released late last year, and he is about to take off on his 2014 tour. You’d expect that being on the road comes with its own temptations, but McCreery insists he remains true to his beliefs while touring.

“Luckily I’ve got a great group of guys in my band we we don’t usually face the temptations that you see in the old rock style kind of folks,” the North Carolina native reveals.

And now that the newest season of ‘Idol’ is in full swing, McCreery wants to let the contestants know it’s alright to be who you are — even if that means showcasing your religious beliefs.

“When you’re out there talking about your faith and what you believe in, you’ll face some backlash,” he says of his experience. “But mostly, I’ve received support.”
