St. Cloud State quarterback Phil Klaphake of Princeton and defensive back Marvin Mathews of Roseville are the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Offensive and Defensive football players of the year.  The players are chosen by the NSIC coaches.  Klaphake is a 6’1 185 pound junior who’s been a 3-year starter at quarterback for SCSU.  Mathews is a 6’0 197 pound senior who was named first team all NSIC last season among other honors.

SCSU was 9-3 overall in 2011 and shared the overall NSIC crown including capturing the North Division title with a 5-1 record.  The Huskies are picked to finish 2nd in the NSIC this season.  The Huskies open the season August 30 at 7pm at home against the University of Sioux Falls.
