St. Patrick’s Day Date Ideas

If  you’re going to be out celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with your sweetie, here are a few fun ideas.

St. Patrick’s Day is so fun. Many pretend to be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day the same as they pretend to be good on Christmas.

This one is cliche, but go on a real, honest to goodness pub crawl. There are many bars and pubs around St. Cloud that will be having parties and specials. Every bar tries to be fake Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, but who cares? If you’re not Irish, you try to be fake Irish so enjoy the green beer and mulligan stew.

If you’re not in the mood to go out, stay in and have your own Irish evening. Grab a light colored beer and add a few drops of blue food coloring and enjoy some green beer. Of course, Guinness is the ultimate Irish brew, but only get a six pack. They’re really filling. Jameson and ginger ale is another good beverage to enjoy with your mulligan stew. You could also make an Emerald Isle Martini. You need two ounces of gin OR vodka – not both. You’ll be flat on your face after one. One ounce of simple syrup one mint leaf and one sprig of mint. Place the vodka, syrup and mint leaf in an iced martini shaker. Shake, strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with sprig of mint. There’s also the Irish Cactus cocktail. In a lowball glass, combine two ounces of Bailey’s and one ounce of tequila and stir. Just, don’t insult the holiday with Irish Car Bombs. It’s the frat boy way to wreck your evening.

Do dinner and a movie without leaving the house. Cook an Irish meal. The Irish are famous for their feasts of corned beef and cabbage, Shepherd’s Pie or mulligan stew. You can finish it off with an Irish coffee or a Guinness cupcake. Just keep them away from the kiddies. There are a few good movies with Irish overtones. Boondock Saints and The Departed are spectacularly violent or if you’re not in that kind of mood, try P.S. I Love You.

Finally, play the Four Leaf Clover Game. Get some four leaf clovers at your favorite craft or party store and divide them into two piles. Write body parts on the backs of one pile and activities on the backs of the other piles. Take turns picking one clover from each pile and doing whatever the clovers say. It’s like dirty dice only with four leaf clovers.
