Tracy Lawrence lived most of his early years in Foreman, Arkansas.  He attended southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas.

In 1990 he left for Nashville.  In 1991 he recorded "Sticks and Stones" and accounted for four singles on the Billboard Country Charts.  The song "Sticks and Stones" spent a week at number one in 1992.  Three other songs from that album also became hit singles.  "Sticks and Stones" was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
