Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight: Dave Dudley

Dave Dudley spearheaded the trucking song phenomenon from 1965 till 1980.

He was born in Spencer, Wisconsin and raised in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.  Moving toward a career in country music, he became a radio DJ.  He worked at country stations in Wisconsin, Iowa, Idaho and Minnesota.  Dudley died on December 22, 2003 at age 75, after suffering a heart attack.

Dudley first hit the Billboard country singles chart  in 1961 with “Maybe I Do.” “Truck Drivers Son of Gun”  went to number three in 1965. “There Ain’t No Easy Run” in 1968 hitting number ten on the country charts.  In  1963 “Six Days on the Road” became a huge hit for Dudley, his signature song.
