The 98 Country Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight this week shines on Mel McDaniel.

The Checotah, Oklahoma native was inspired to play music by Elvis Presley.  At age 14, he taught himself to play the guitar.

Mel was a member of the Grand Ole Opry, he joined in 1986.  His good time 1980's hits included "Louisiana Saturday Night," "Stand Up," and  "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On."

McDaniel's brand of country music were happy songs, not like other country artists who sing about broken hearts, lost loves and drinking.

Mel McDaniel, singer and Grand Ole Opry member, died of lung cancer at age 68 earlier this year, March 31, 2011.

Join us Sunday morning for the life and music of Mel McDaniel at 11:00 AM on November 20th on the Country Classic Spotlight on 98 Country.
