Alabama, a country music and southern rock band from Fort Payne, Alabama.  The band was founded in 1969 by Randy Owen and his first cousin Teddy Gentry.

The band was known as "Wild Country" when is first started.  In 1977, "Wild Country" changed its name to "Alabama."  In 1980 they signed a contract with RCA.  Alabama's first single for RCA was "Tennessee River," it began a streak of twenty one consecutive number one singles between 1980 and 1987.

The band won CMA awards in 1981, 1982 and 1983 Vocal of the Year.  1982, 1983 and 1984 Entertainer of the Year.  Unlike vocal groups such as the "Oak Ridge Boys" and the "Statler Brothers," Alabama was a self-constructed band, they handled all the instruments as well as the vocals.

By successfully applying the rock and roll model of the self contained band to country music, Alabama paved the way for such acts as,"Restless Heart," "Shenandoah and the Mavericks."  Alabama has played several times at the Minnesota State Fair.  Saturday August 4th the band will play at We Fest in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Join me Sunday august 5th, live from the Benton County Fair for the music of Alabama on the Country Classic Spotlight at 11 AM.  Hope to see you at the Fair 9 AM to 1 PM on 98.1 FM 98 Country.
