Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight to Feature Alison Krauss

Join me at 11 a.m. on January 12, 2014 for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring Alison Krauss.  The Country Classic Show kicks off at 9 a.m.

Alison was born July 23, 1971 in Decatur, Illinois.  At age 12, Krauss was named the most promising fiddler in the Midwest by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America.

She recorded her debut album, Too Late To Cry, in 1987.  She was encouraged to sing on the album and out came this pure beautiful soprano voice, strong and very moving.  Her vocals soon eclipsed her fiddling.  In 1989 Two Highways was credited to Alison Krauss and Union Station and defined the style that would become her signature.

On July 3, 1993 she became the first bluegrass artist to be inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1964.  Also in 1993, she won her fourth and fifth Grammy Awards and four CMA Awards including Female Vocalist , Horizon , Single of the Year with Union Station for When You Say Nothing at All, and Vocal Event of the Year with Shenandoah for Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart.

As of 2012, she has won 27 Grammy Awards from 41 nominations.  Alison was married to Patrick Bergeson from 1997 to 2001.  Their son, Sam, was born in July 1999.
