Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight to Feature Claude King

Claude King's career spanned more the forty years. He is identified with just  one song "Wolverton Mountain," from May of 1962. That song hit number one and stayed at that position for nine weeks.

King and Johnny Horton were friends and like to hunt together. After Johnny Horton died in an automobile accident on November 5, 1960, Tillman Franks, who was Johnny Horton's manager, groomed King as his replacement.  King was signed to Columbia Records.

After two top ten hits with songs based on movies, "Big River," "big Man" and "The Comancheros," then he recorded "Wolverton Mountain" which also went to number six on the pop chart.

Kking was born in Keithville, Louisiana, near the city of Shreveport. He continues to live in Shreveport with his wife Barbara of 62 years. He had 3 sons and has six grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Claude King is 90 years old.
