Join me at 11 a.m. Sunday May 4th for the Country Classic Spotlight as we journey back to the life and music of David Frizzell.  The Country Classic Show kicks off every Sunday at 9 a.m., you can hear the show at 98.1 FM, online and on your smart phone.  Lewey David Frizzell,  the younger brother of Lefty Frizzell, grew up around the oil fields of the southwest.  He was born on September 26, 1941 in El Dorado, Arkansas.  He first topped the charts in 1981 with You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma, a duet with Shelley West.

At the time, David and Shelley appeared to be on the fast lane of young stars of the urban cowyboy era.  In August 1982, he scored his only solo number one country single with, I'm Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate Our Home, which was nominated for Song of the Year and a Grammy Award in 1982.

David and Shelley recorded several duets that did quite well on the charts.  After he parted ways with her, he continued to record solo albums.

At age 72 he continues to tour, his life and his career are tightly woven into the fabric of country music.  He is both a legacy and a legend.  More recently he has teamed up with Mother's Against Drunk Driving to raise awareness of the danger of driving drunk.
