Join me Sunday morning at 11 a.m. for the Country Classic Spotlight.  This week we are featuring the music of Hank Williams Jr.

Hank was born on May 26, 1949 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was only three and half when his father, Hank Williams Sr. died.  Hank Jr., nicknamed Bocephus, grew up in Nashville, Tennessee.

His career was orchestrated by his mother, Audrey.  He started to assert his independence in the early 1970′s.  The first clear indication of his career direction came with the Hank Williams Jr and Friends album.  The song Family Tradition did a lot to establish the image that he wanted for himself.

Hank can play several instruments including lead guitar and piano.  His musical style is often considered a blend of southern rock, blues, and traditional country.  From 1989 until October 2011 a version of his song, All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight, was used as the opening for broadcasts of Monday Night Football.

He has been politically involved with the Republican party.  In November 2008, he explored a run for the 2012 Republican Nomination as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee, but no announcement ever came.

Hank is the father of Hank Williams III, Holly, Hillary, Samuel and Katie.  He was married to Gwen Yeargain until 1977, followed by a marriage to Becky White and then he married Mary-Jane Thomas in 1990.

During the 1980′s Williams catapulted to stardom with several multi-platinum albums and dozens of chart topping singles.  He also won the Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year award in 1987 and 1988 and a Grammy award in 1989 for a duet with his father’s recorded vocals called That’s a Tear in My Beer.

Join me Sunday September 1st at 11 a.m.  for the music of Hank Williams Jr.  We get started at 9 a.m. with the Country Classic Show.
