Join me Sunday, May 24th for the music and life of Janie Fricke at 11 am on the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight.  Hear more of your favorite country classic hits every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm on 98.1 Minnesota's New Country, online and on your mobile device.

Janie Fricke emerged from a career as a background singer to become a very successful solo artist.  She first charted in 1972 and remained on the country charts throughout the 1980's.

She moved to Nashville in 1975 and became one of Nashville's most requested background singers.  She sang backup for artists such as Elvis Presley, Tanya Tucker, Charlie Pride, Dolly Parton and Ronnie Milsap.

Janie had her first solo number one record in 1982 with Don't Worry 'Bout Me Baby. That was followed by a second consecutive number one hit, It Ain't Easy Bein' Easy.  Mark Gray, Les Taylor and Shanna Burkhart wrote the song.  It's one of my favorites from Janie.  It was released in August of 1982 as the first single from the album It Ain't Easy. The single went to number one for one week and spent thirteen weeks on the country charts.

Surely you can sit down for a while, maybe you can even smile and I'll try to pretend that you love me again.

She also recorded duets with Johnny Duncan and Charlie Rich and continues to be actively involved in the music industry today in a small way.
