Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight to Feature Jessi Coulter

Amazon

With her religious upbringing and refined manner, singer and songwriter Jessi Coulter seemed to be an unlikely participant in the outlaw movement that transformed country music in the 1970′s.  Yet her tremulous voice disguised the fact that she was no more obedient to the outlaw music movement than the rowdy Willie, Waylon and the boys.

She was profoundly influenced by her mother, an ordained pentecostal minister.  She was discovered  in Phoenix, Arizona by guitarist Duane Eddy who she married in 1962, the marriage ended in divorce in 1968.

She moved to California where she met Waylon Jennings, who would be come her second husband.  She married Waylon Jennings in 1969. In the early 1980′s, Coulter and Jennings nearly divorced due to his addictions to drugs and other substance abuse.  However, they remained together until Waylon died in 2002.  Jessi was born May 25, 1943, Miriam Johnson.

Sunday morning April 15th at 11:00 AM the spotlight shines on Jessi Coulter.  I am going to play her hits:  “I Am Not Lisa,” “It’s Morning,” “Whats Happened to Blue Eyes” and “Wild Side of Life/ It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels” and more.  Join me Sunday at 11:00 AM for the music of Jessi Coulter on 98.1 FM 98 Country.
